We are a couple in our 30s that stayed here for our minimoon in early October and everything about this place was just PERFECT!
The place is wonderfully located 15 minutes from Duluth and 4 minutes from New Scenic Cafe, which has some amazing food! The sauna and the fire pit are very enjoyable and easy to use with the clear instruction booklet in the cabin. The property itself is very thoughtfully and intentionally designed. The layout of windows and orientation of walls is optimized for privacy. The fireplace inside the cabin is also a nice touch. We loved the lack of a TV in the space, which made it feel more isolated from the world. There are many little details (like the shelf under the mirror in the bathroom, the slight incline for the shower door rail which helps it roll to shut, the bathrobes for sauna etc) which made this property stand out for us and we would definitely be staying here again!

This is the 2nd time we have stayed here and it is perfect for the two of us! We love the privacy and the private spaces both inside and out. We use the grill for making excellent dinners and sit in the beautiful sunshine and eat our meal while overlooking Lake Superior. Good places to eat and walk the lake are close and we really enjoy this place! Highly recommend for a peaceful nature getaway especially if you want to unplug and be away from it all

The sauna was a very nice treat after long days of exploring the area, and the surrounding woods made relaxing by the fire pit a joy unto itself. The cabin was super clean, and communication with our hosts was excellent. We would stay here again without reservation… but you do need to make reservations! Look, I’m so relaxed I made a joke!

The place was extremely cozy, clean and convenient. we woke up our first morning to a deer out the back window and enjoyed the fire place and sauna on each of the cold north shore nights. My wife and I were here for our honeymoon and loved it. One thing i would note is the only method to cook is the stovetop, so next time i would pack an air fryer as well. All in all it was a fantastic stay and im sure we will be back!

Location is great for visiting Duluth and hiking the state parks along the north shore. We will definitely be back. My experience staying at Wildernest Cabin #5 for 2 nights in early September was wonderful! The cabin was the perfect size, and it had everything I needed. I loved the fireplace, the huge window looking out into the woods, the luxury bathroom, comfy bed, and long bench in front of the window. The location was great – I went to Brighton Beach and explored Lester Park. I would have loved to stay longer (actually – I would love to live here permanently LOL!). It's very hard to find a place to stay in Duluth in the summer and early fall, especially somewhere that's so peaceful. I've already recommended Wildernest Cabins to a few of my friends and family, and I definitely plan to come back. In any season this would be a great place to stay. I loved how well the cabin was built, and the spacing of the cabins as well as the sauna, firepit, and picnic table were well thought out. Everything was perfect and I loved it all!

The large window is amazing looking right into woods not to mention the private sauna and gas fire pit.
If you decide you want to grill up some food it has that too. With a well cared for Weber just waiting to be fired up.

Me and my boyfriend went up here for our first vacation together, and it was so beautiful! The cabin is VERY well kept, and very cold (which I loved!) The amenities are so convenient! The stovetop took a bit to figure out, but it was super helpful to have the guest book! The dishwasher is super helpful as well! The fireplace ran just fine and was super comforting! The bed was fantastic and was VERY comfortable! The sauna was so relaxing and very easy to use! The location was very convenient and was out of the way, yet close enough to most things! Everything you would need is within 30 minutes both directions, and having some recommendations for stuff nearby in the book? SUPER helpful! One thing I would've loved to make it more convenient is a microwave hidden somewhere, but we brought up our air fryer and it worked just as fine! Along with an accessable, long handled broom, but I'm a bit of a bit picker for cleaning 😂 We're hoping to make this our new vacation spot each year! Staff was super helpful and made this trip very easy to check in and out

Secluded enough that we saw a baby deer out our window and could hear the waves from the lake crashing at night. Beautifully appointed cabin. Sleek and modern with an amazing giant window. We watched deer, rabbits and the wind move through the trees while we sipped from warm mugs in bed. All sorts of comforts and it felt like the best of everything. The robes added another touch of luxury. I loved the induction stove top. I kept noticing all these little gorgeous details. The shower floor all the brass colored trimmings. Wood grains on the ceiling. The quiet little dishwasher. This place looks like it floated off the pages of Luxe or Elle Decor magazine and landed in the North Woods. Honestly I've never spent time in a space this beautifully designed. Perfect, minimal and some how cozy all at once. Can't recommend it enough. Inspiring!

We absolutely loved our stay at this cabin! It's clear these are newer cabins as you can still smell the new wood, etc. The size of the cabin and the extra private sauna was so perfect for us as we enjoy traveling and privacy and often those two don't mix! The exterior picnic table and tiny gas fireplace also provided privacy. The interior was perfectly appointed and we really enjoyed the interior gas fireplace. It made the space so cozy and peaceful. Also, the HUGE picture window across the entire back of the cabin was like watching a wildlife movie, and just so beautiful! We watched a beautiful doe graze right outside for an extended time.
The cabin itself is appointed with several items, although if you are used to airbnb and cooking, there is no microwave or range. There are two induction burners and we were creative and made it work for our needs, but good to be aware of this for those who care. Overall, this was a much-needed getaway and we do hope to return in the fall -

Amazing Place! Highly recommend. We are already planning to come back. The room is supplied with all the little things you need. They thought of everything. (Ecxept maybe some way to make ice) the bed is comfortable and great to wake up with the huge picture window. Multiple heat options, the gas fire place in more than enough to warm the whole place. The sauna is perfect for 2-4 people. Having a prive option drew us here over other locations we looked at. We've been getting 2-3 sessions in per day. Haven't gotten to use the private outdoor gas fire pit or group wood fire pits due to winter but we hope to come back to take advantage of them. Definitely bring some fruit and snack, and your favorite healthy drinks.

For anyone interested in exploring the majesty of this area, we highly recommend this magical place. The proximity to both nature and entertainment is perfect! We were able to visit several state parks as well as enjoy amazing dining less than 5 minutes from the property. The property itself feels very private (we watched deer from our large pane window with our coffee each morning), is impeccably maintained and new. We visited after the first snowfall, making the sauna even more inviting!

We had an amazing two-night stay! The cabin was brand new, spotless, and thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed. Each cabin has its own private gas fireplace inside and an outdoor gas fire pit, both perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The large picture windows look out over the beautiful wooded property, making the space feel peaceful and connected to nature. The private sauna was such a treat, too. If you want a real wood fire, there’s a shared fire pit in the pavilion, we used it the first night and had it all to ourselves. It was great to sit by the fire and stargaze under the clear North Shore sky. The location couldn’t be better, right next to Lake Superior and the scenic route, with easy access to great restaurants and all the popular North Shore attractions. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again!

This was a fantastic find. I believe it is virtually brand new. I have used Air BnB many times and have had good luck, this was perhaps the best and most accurate stay I have ever had. I truly wish I had more time to be at this location. It was unique and perfectly located for us to go hiking on some of the most beautiful trails. Returning from our hike and rejuvenating in the private sauna punctuated a perfect day. The amenities, from the bed, fireplace, private gas fire pit, new appliances, to the large community wood burning fire pit, was incredible. Everything you need to enjoy such a scenic place. It was quiet, very clean, great shower, private, near so many wonderful sites to take pictures, and premium hiking locations were everywhere. I recently spent a weekend at Wildernest Cabins with my wife. It was wonderful. Peaceful, cozy, just what we needed. At night, we'd sit by the fireplace and play board games (we were pleasantly surprised to find a basket with games in our room… I learned to play Azul). In the morning, we'd sit and have coffee in our private sauna. The fire pit is shared, so we sat and visited other quests. And spent the rest of our time walking by the lake and exploring Duluth. The accommodations were simple, but incredibly comfortable. Everything was clean and well-maintaned. The kitchenette is well-equipped (their website tells you what they provide). It was really a nice experience.

Recently spent two nights at Wildernest. The space is very beautiful and cozy! A++ amenities and stay!! There are 6 cabins all nestled in their own little pockets of nature with picture windows looking out into the woods. Animals wandered by during the day adding to the magic. The cabins were perfectly clean, modern, and well thought out. They had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. We used the barrel sauna at our cabin each morning and spent our evenings under the stars at the community fire pit meeting new people and telling stories. The location was great, just far enough from Duluth for there to be privacy and woods, but close enough that we could head into town for dinner. We were also only a short drive from great hikes like Castle Danger trailhead and Gooseberry Falls. Excited to come back in the winter for cozy vibes when there is snow outside.

Are the cabins pet-friendly?
To protect the cabins, landscaping, and local wildlife, no pets are permitted on the property.
Are the cabins kid-friendly?
Wildernest Cabins is designed as an adult retreat with a maximum occupancy of two guests per cabin, regardless of age. While children are welcome, our property does feature several safety concerns for children including exposed sauna heaters, hot fireplaces, an open fire pit, and location on Scenic Highway 61. We do not provide specialized children’s items such as cribs or highchairs.

How many cabins are available?
We offer six intimate cabins, each carefully designed to accommodate two guests. While each cabin provides a secluded experience, our central pavilion area includes communal spaces perfect for gathering, featuring picnic tables, grill stations, and a community firepit.
Is there WiFi and cell service?
Yes! All cabins have reliable high-speed WiFi, perfect for working, streaming, or sharing your trip. Cell service depends on your carrier—most work fine, though T-Mobile can be spotty. Whether you want to stay connected or unplug, the choice is yours.
Is there an EV charger on-site? Will it work with my car?
Yes! We have two Wallbox Pulsar Plus chargers available near the pavilion (not at the cabins), free for all guests. They use the standard J1772 connector.
What should I bring?
Breakfast items, your favorite snacks, groceries, ice, sunscreen, bug spray, and layers (North Shore weather changes quickly).

Do the cabins have water filters?
No, the tap water is Lake Superior water treated at the city filtration system two miles down the shore. It is completely odorless, tasteless, and clear.
Are there TVs in the cabins?
We intentionally keep our cabins TV-free to encourage deeper connections—with nature, with each other, and with yourself. If you crave some screen time, feel free to bring a laptop or tablet to stream your favorite shows during downtime.
Is there heating and air conditioning?
Each cabin is equipped with a mini-split system for heating and cooling, supplemented by radiant heat for cold Minnesota winters and a two-sided gas fireplace.
What kitchen facilities are provided?

To maintain the natural habitat and ensure a quality experience for all guests, camping is not permitted on our property.
When are the quiet hours?
10pm – 8am · Please respect fellow guests and our neighbors by keeping voices and music low.
Are the cabins wheelchair accessible?
We have one ADA accessible cabin. Please reach out via email to make specific inquiries about spaces and ADA-accessible lodging.
Is smoking allowed onsite?
Smoking is prohibited on the entire Wildernest Cabins property.
Is there direct access to Lake Superior from the property?
While Wildernest Cabins doesn’t have direct lake frontage, the nearby McQuade Small Craft Harbor provides excellent lake access just a short walk from our property. This public facility includes a boat launch, kayak ramp, restrooms, shelter, fishing platforms, and a paved walkway with a tunnel to the east breakwall. Absolutely! We offer the unique opportunity to book our entire property for a truly exclusive experience. When you rent the full property, you’ll have exclusive access to:
● All six cabins
● Communal gathering spaces at central pavilion
● Private, woodland setting
What is the maximum group size for a full property rental?
Our property is designed to accommodate up to 12 guests total (2 guests per cabin). We prioritize an intimate, connected experience that allows groups to enjoy nature and each other’s company.
To ensure a peaceful and respectful environment for all:
● No large parties or events are permitted
● Additional visitors or day guests require prior approval
● Quiet hours are observed from 10 PM to 8 AM
